Life Skills Coach
The Supportive Living Life Skills Coach works directly with a consumer. SLS consumers are adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes and learn how to do daily tasks more independently. The Life Skills Coach (LSC) assists with training in life skills such as meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, house cleaning and laundry, budgeting and money management, using public transportation and more. Each consumer has his/her own goals which he/she sets and those goals drive the work the LSC and consumer do each day.
JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:
Observation and reporting of individual’s Progress or setbacks. Support and motivate consumer to develop independent living skills. Teach and assist consumer with planning and preparing meals. Teach and assist consumers with developing and maintaining a laundry and housekeeping routine. Develop and encourage participation in individual (or group) leisure time activities. Assist consumer with medical and dental appointments. Assist consumer with transportation when working on individual service plan objectives and services. These are a few examples of the type of work you will be doing.
Other duties as needed; including but not limited to
- To provide in-home and community based assistance to consumers according to individual service programs set up by Alta California Regional Center and New Start.
- To Teach and assist all consumers in the areas outlined in the individual service program.
- To document daily charting notes
- To report any issues and concerns regarding consumers to New Start Case Manager.
- To attend in-service training sessions when offered.
- To assist with special events when needed.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working as a care-giver, educator, or with people with disabilities
HIRING CRITERIA AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession and proof of a valid California Drivers License, vehicle insurance, a go driving record, and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
- Must show evidence of a negative TB test within the last year.
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
- Ability to pass drug screen at the request of New Start.
- Must be able to work with people who have disabilities.
